For generations there has been horse breeding in Herridarholl. All our breeding mares are from our own stock. We breed these mostly with stallions from our own farm which has given us very good results. This way we know the disposition and character of both parents. A few of our best mares are breed with top stallions from outside the farm. Our horses grow up in herds and get regular check ups and deworming medication. Every year we bring the young horses into the stable for a few days to get them used to being handled. At 4 years they get trained to accept saddle and bridle and at 5 we start to ride them.

In our breeding we look for a good build of the neck, shoulder and chest as well as very good tölt and an uncomplicated disposition.
Our breeding has produced a number of top horses. The best known horses are probably the first class breeding mare Hera frá Herriðarhóli (8,23), the top four-gaited mare Hylling frá Herriðarhóli (8,34; In the tölt final at Landsmot 2004) and the five-gaited mare Helena frá Herriðarhóli (8,33) which was successfully shown in the breeding class at the Landsmot 2004 and 2006. Both parents are first class certified breeding horses.
